So I Butchered My Family Last Night

Yep, that's right. Butchered.

It came to be time in our home for haircuts and while we are trying to save a little money I have been cutting Wyatt and Jeff's hair myself. We have never had a problem before, meaning that they always looked presentable. Then we get to last night.

Well, we always start with Jeff first so Wyatt sees its nothing to worry about. As I was cutting I was REALLY trying not to give Jeff a bowl cut which usually ends up happening, I'm just not good at the fade. He was telling me how the barber usually does it and so I started trying to do that....this is where we took a nasty turn. It didn't really work I took a step back and just said OH MY! What had I just done, oh nooooo. I had cut Jeff's hair much higher than I should have and it didn't fade at all so now you could see the curve at the top of his head and this circle of hair on top that was way too long. I tried to do a little mrore to it and then Jeff got up to look. I couldn't stop apologizing, he said he didn't care but I was going to have to just give him a buzz cut. I figured that I could probably get away with just cutting the top really short but not as short as a buzz cut. We did that....yes it's short but I kind of like it.....it's not tooooo bad.

Then we get to Wyatt. See, he was watching all of this and had already decided this woman can not cut hair. DON"T let her near my hair, but I was determined. Jeff held him on his lap and we struggled to cut Wyatt's hair, he spent the majority of the time with his head in his lap so I was able to get the sides and back taken care of. He decided to lift his head and let me get the front....here is where it all goes wrong. First, I was afraid to turn off the clippers and change the gauge to a bigger one for the top and bangs, so I decided to use what I had and just not actually touch his head with the clippers. I was in the process of running it thru when suddenly Wyatt decides to duck his head again......WHOOPS. The clippers got to close and there went a big chunk of his bangs. Great, now I had to cut the rest shorter to get them to look somewhat even and I didn't even cut the rest as short as that first part because that's really short. I'm really bummed about this because I love his cute bangs and now he hardly has any. Oh well.

At this point he was done and I still needed to do some more damage control but he is not having it. Jeff goes to take a shower and I decide to use baby powder to get the hair off Wyatt's chest. He is crazy for some baby powder and always wants to play with it so I decide a) since I tortured him with this hair cut I would let him play with it and b) while he is playing with it I could continue to cut his hair....if he lets me. Well, the powder worked I was able to trim up the rest of his hair except for over the ears as he played in powder. Boy, did he ever play in that powder. Today is my day off and now I get to spend the ENTIRE day cleaning every inch of this house. I mean every inch because EVERY place I look there is a layer of powder, and of course I do this a few days before I am getting ready to have company over. LOVELY, just how I wanted to spend my day.

I am also a little bummed that my friends are coming over that haven't seen Wyatt in forever and he looks like a mangy freak. Nothing I can do about it now....except show them pictures of him from before the haircut.

One final thing that I find humorous about this is how anyone and everyone I meet can not stop telling me how much Wyatt looks like Jeff. He is truly a mini-me for Jeff. Well, after the haircuts they have continued in that same fashion....because I cut their hair equally as bad. The poor things.
